Spellings and Reading Books

Hi All,

I hope you are all having a fantastic holiday.

It seems this week that Year 6 are under the impression that because SAT's are over that we have stopped learning things in our classroom. Please believe me when I say this is not the case.

We are still doing Maths, English, Science, RE and Topic until the end of the year. We no longer send home homework in their books in order for your children to learn their lines for the production; however, we are still looking at reading books and continuing with spelling tests.

With the minimal amount of children doing well in spellings this week and hardly any reading books coming back to school I felt that this was something we needed to promote.

Please encourage your children to read at home and practice their spellings:

This weeks are:
Immense
Vast
Gigantic
Gargantuan
Mammoth
Miniature
Miniscule
Insignificant
Microscopic
Petite

Looking forward to our walk up Darwen Tower this week, see you all tomorrow.

Any child who brings back their reading book read this week signed and tells me they 'Love to Read' will receive an extra reward on Friday.

Half term

Dear Year 6,

We just wanted to take this opportunity to say well done! We are proud of you for all your effort over this half term. You have worked hard and you should be proud of yourselves and the things you have achieved.

Now that SAT’s are over, please take the opportunity over half term to get a well-deserved and well-earned rest. Hopefully you will have the opportunity to enjoy the sunshine!

Although we don’t stop learning new things, this is the time to really enjoy yourself through trips, production practise and special Year 6 treats.

Your homework for the next five weeks will be to learn your lines and the songs for the production.

Always remember, as your teachers we will always be in one of three places:

  • ·         In front of you to cheer you on
  • ·         Behind you to have your back
  • ·         And next to you so that you aren’t walking alone.

You will all achieve great things if you put your mind to it.
Have a lovely holiday,

Miss Rawlings

SATs week and beyond

Hi All,

Sorry I haven't updated you in a while.

Next week is SATs week :).

Reminder that breakfast club is free for all Year 6's Monday - Thurs.

We are at church on Friday morning for the Pentecost service - children will need wellies, something of their own clothes on their bottom halves and school uniform on the top half. Please only send your children with their packed lunch on that day. no school bags. This is in preparation for our trip to Edisford bridge after church. If you are yet to pay for this, please check ParentPay.

I have made this weeks homework slightly different. They all have different dates to return to encourage the right revision for the corresponding days of the tests. (Please see the bottom of the blog.)

I am not sending any spellings home this week. The next set of spellings will be sent home next Friday to continue after SATs week.

We have been chosen as a school to sit the Science SATs. This will not happen until June. More information will come next week in letter form.

There will also be a letter about Ice-Skating coming home today. I believe this has been added to ParentPay for you now.

Let your children have a chilled weekend this weekend. It's going to be a busy week next week.

This is the timetable for next week, just as a quick reminder.

3 weeks to go...

Hi all,

Well I hope you all got a good rest over the Easter holidays. That extra day made it feel like a very long holiday indeed!

SATs Club on Monday
In this weeks SATs club we will be going through the homework from the holidays with the children - so if you'd like to know some of the answers yourself please feel free to come along. All children need to bring the homework with them, even if they have not completed it. It will still help to know how to answer the questions.

Letters
There are two important letters coming out, hopefully today, but if not - on Monday for you to keep your eyes out for.
1) We are going to Edisford Bridge on a trip as part of our topic, this will be on ParentPay for you to pay and children will be allowed to bring £2 with them to get an ice-cream while we are there. This money will be the children's responsibility. This trip will be on Friday 18th May (a nice way to end SATs week :) )
2) A letter detailing a Year 6 breakfast club for SATs week. If you would like your child to go to this, you will need t return the slip ASAP so that we can make sure the right amount of breakfast is ordered for our wonderful year 6's that week.

Other things to look forward to...
- Details of the Year 6 production will be given to the children on Thursday 17th May in the afternoon.
- we are looking into an ice-skating trip and hopefully a walk up to Darwen tower with the Year 6's too. I am hoping we can get both of these trips running as a treat towards the end of the Year but will keep you updated as this happens.
- Year 6 leavers disco date to come
- Leavers service
- all dates of transition to high school should be with you now from your high schools.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Rawlings

Easter Maths

Ask your children about Easter math this week. Miss Khan said they had a great time with it on Tuesday. They certainly created a lovely basket full of eggs.

It's been nice to see so many reading books this week. Only three children haven't read at home this week. Let's see if we can get a full class reading next week. Please encourage your children to read at home. Find something they really enjoy. If your child has lost their reading record please give me a ring and we can discuss what to do next.

Please continue to encourage your children to complete their homework and practise their spellings. Not long now.

Have a lovely a weekend
